What we treat
Dental treatment in Küsnacht at a glance, from check-ups to implants
Our dental treatment in Küsnacht ranges from check-ups and fillings to implants. The clinic is in Küsnacht-Goldbach, on the eastern shore of Lake Zurich. We also offer orthodontics, teeth whitening, CEREC crowns and veneers, an anti-snoring splint and longevity medicine.
All treatments are grouped by concern and briefly explained. At your examination, we assess whether a treatment is right for you.
Treatments by concern
Each item leads to its section below. For acute problems, go straight to the emergency page.
- Sudden toothache: help with acute toothache
- Tooth decay or an inflamed tooth: to gentle treatment
- A missing tooth, or damaged or crooked teeth: to tooth replacement and cosmetic dentistry
- Check-ups and cleaning: to preventive dental care
- Snoring: to other treatments
- Dental anxiety, a home visit or dementia: to special situations
Gentle treatment to keep your own teeth
This covers diseased or damaged teeth. The aim is to keep your own tooth.
Laser dentistry
The laser removes decay and kills bacteria. During surgery, including on the gums, it causes hardly any bleeding. Our laser expert is Dr Susan Oswald-Schütz. Find out how the laser replaces the drill.
Treatment without injections
Before treatment, many people wonder whether an injection is needed. When we remove decay with the laser, in many cases it is not. It depends on what we find. For the local anaesthetic, we also use intraosseous anaesthesia. The anaesthetic is delivered directly into the bone next to the tooth. This numbs the tooth itself, and your lip and cheek usually do not go numb. Read when treatment without an injection is possible.
Tooth fillings
We remove decay gently, then rebuild the tooth. Small defects are repaired with composite, more severely damaged teeth with CEREC ceramic. Read about tooth fillings and when a tooth can be saved.
Root canal treatment
Inflamed tissue in the root canal causes pain and puts the tooth at risk. We clean the canals thoroughly, and the laser kills bacteria. Then we seal the canal tightly. More on root canal treatment with laser and digital X-rays.

Preventive dental care
Many dental problems develop unnoticed. Regular preventive care often catches decay and gum disease early, before they hurt or need major treatment.
Dental check-ups
We examine your teeth and gums and discuss the findings openly with you. X-rays are taken only when needed, digitally and with around 80 per cent less radiation than conventional methods. Here is what happens at a dental check-up.
Dental hygiene
Ultrasound loosens plaque and tartar, including below the gum line. AirFlow removes stains with a fine jet of powder and water. This is cleaning, not whitening. Details on the procedure and cost of dental hygiene.
Longevity medicine
Dr. med. / med. dent. Arno König looks beyond the teeth at the whole body. He aims to detect degenerative diseases before symptoms appear. A consultation and targeted examinations lead to a personal plan. See how the longevity assessment works.

Tooth replacement and cosmetic dentistry
This covers missing teeth and teeth that are damaged, discoloured or crooked.
Dental implants
If one or more teeth are missing, implants can support fixed, natural-looking replacement teeth. We plan with a digital scan and digital X-rays and use the laser during the procedure. Find out how a dental implant is planned and placed.
CEREC crowns and veneers
CEREC lets us make ceramic crowns and veneers at the clinic, in two to three hours. A digital scan replaces the impression, and a temporary crown is usually not needed. Veneers are thin ceramic shells for the front teeth. Read about a crown or veneer, usually in one appointment.
Teeth whitening
Coffee, tea and red wine stain the enamel over the years. We first clean the teeth professionally, then lighten them with a power light. See what teeth whitening at the dentist costs.
Invisalign and orthodontics
We straighten crooked teeth with clear, removable aligners from Invisalign® or Angel Aligner. You wear them 20 to 22 hours a day. For children, we recommend a first assessment from the age of seven or eight. More on straightening teeth with Invisalign and Angel Aligner.

Other treatments
Two of these help with planning. The third is for snoring.
Digital impressions
A small scanner captures your teeth in photorealistic 3D. The scan supports prevention and early detection of decay. It is also the basis for precise restorations. See how a digital dental impression without impression material works.
Smile simulation
A selfie lets you see on your smartphone how your teeth could look after aligner treatment. This Angel Aligner service is non-binding and does not replace a dentist's advice. Try the free aligner preview with a selfie.
Anti-snoring splint
We also offer an anti-snoring splint. In general, such a splint is worn during sleep and holds the lower jaw slightly forward to keep the airway more open. A sleep medicine assessment shows whether pauses in breathing at night lie behind the snoring. Read when an anti-snoring splint is an option.

What every treatment at Zahnklinik Küsnacht has in common
The treatments differ, but three things apply to them all.
Technology used in many treatments
The laser makes treatment more comfortable. Digital X-rays use much less radiation. The digital scanner provides photorealistic images. CEREC produces ceramic crowns and veneers at the clinic. Cleaning uses ultrasound and AirFlow.
An experienced team
Our medical director, Dr Susan Oswald-Schütz, holds the Swiss federal diploma in dentistry and is a laser expert. She also holds the Brånemark Master Diploma in implantology and diplomas in laser assessment and laser safety, and has 30 years of experience with the laser. Carin Wirz has worked with her for more than 20 years. She began as an apprentice and handles prophylaxis and practice management. Dr. med. / med. dent. Arno König supports the team with a focus on outpatient cosmetic surgery, implantology, CEREC and longevity medicine. He used to work in surgery at Klinik Bethanien in Zurich and ran his own practice for decades before selling it a few years ago. Since then, he has treated patients at Zahnklinik Küsnacht. Dental care costs in Switzerland
There is no fixed price list here. We discuss the cost of your treatment in person.
How dental prices are calculated
Dental treatment in Switzerland is billed under the dental tariff (Zahnarzttarif). It gives each treatment a set number of tax points (Taxpunkte). Tax points multiplied by the tax point value (Taxpunktwert) give the amount in francs. We bill transparently under the Dentotar tariff, with our tax point value of CHF 1.13, and give you open advice on costs.
Three things mainly determine the amount:
- the findings: how much work the tooth needs
- the material, such as composite or ceramic
- the extent: how many teeth and appointments are needed
Health and dental insurance in Switzerland
Compulsory basic health insurance (Grundversicherung) does not usually pay for dental treatment. There are few exceptions, such as certain serious illnesses. Supplementary dental insurance (Zahnzusatzversicherung) covers costs fully or partly, depending on your policy.
Treatment examples and in-depth articles
Eleven typical treatment examples are written up, with the starting point, approach and technology used. We do not show before-and-after pictures. All eleven are collected under dental case studies from the clinic.
Seven articles in our dental health guide go deeper into implants, aligners, healthy gums and more. We also remove wisdom teeth gently, after an assessment with digital X-rays. A separate article explains when wisdom teeth removal makes sense.
Common questions about our dental treatments

+41 44 915 17 77What dental treatments does Zahnklinik Küsnacht offer?
Treatments range from check-ups and dental hygiene to fillings, implants, crowns, veneers, whitening and aligners. We also offer digital impressions, smile simulation, an anti-snoring splint and longevity medicine. Separate pages cover dental emergencies, fear of the dentist, home visits and people with dementia.
Can I request an appointment if I am not sure which treatment I need?
Yes. In the appointment form, choose ‘Something else’ and describe your concern briefly. You can also call us. At the examination, we work out which treatment makes sense.
Is a dental check-up the same as a dental hygiene appointment?
No. At a check-up, we examine your teeth and gums, discuss the findings with you and take X-rays only when needed. Dental hygiene is professional cleaning with ultrasound and AirFlow. It loosens plaque and tartar, including below the gum line, and removes stains.
