A dentist at home or in a care home
Dentist home visits in Küsnacht for elderly people and care homes
A dentist home visit in Küsnacht is for people who can no longer get to the clinic easily. In that case, Zahnklinik Küsnacht comes to you as a mobile dentist, at home or in your care home. Before a visit, we check by phone what is possible on site: +41 44 915 17 77. Further down, you will find information for care homes.
Who a dentist home visit is for
A home visit makes sense when the trip to the clinic is too difficult. This may be permanent or last only a few weeks, for example after a hospital stay.
Older people living at home
When walking gets hard, the dental check-up is often the first thing to go. Dentist home visits for elderly people spare them the trip to the clinic.
People with limited mobility
Younger people may also depend on a visit. Reasons include serious illness, disability or being confined to bed. What matters is whether they can reasonably manage the trip.
Family members who arrange the visit
Daughters, sons or partners often request the visit. The person being visited should agree. In a care home, the care team usually makes the request.
Who comes on a home visit
Who carries out the visit
When you request a visit, we will tell you who is coming. See who is on the clinic team.
Who should be there during the visit
It helps if someone familiar is there. This could be a relative, or a nurse from the care home or Spitex, the Swiss home care service. They know the patient's medical history and medication and can answer questions if the patient is tired.
What a dentist can do on a home visit
A mobile dentist works with portable equipment. A lot is possible, but not everything a practice can do.
Examination and advice at home
A home visit usually includes:
- examining teeth, gums and the lining of the mouth
- investigating pain and sore spots
- checking how dentures fit
- demonstrating daily mouth care
What a mobile dentist can bring
Depending on the practice, portable equipment includes a bright lamp, instruments and a small suction unit. Before the visit, we will tell you what we bring and what we can treat on site.
When dentures rub or feel loose
Dentures that rub or wobble are a common reason for a dentist home visit. Sore spots make chewing difficult. Some people then stop wearing their dentures altogether. We work out what to do after the examination. See also how often a dental check-up makes sense.
When a clinic appointment is the better choice
Some treatments need equipment that is permanently installed at the clinic. If someone can still leave the house with a companion, the clinic is often the better choice.
Treatments that need the clinic's equipment
For example, the clinic has digital X-ray imaging with around 80 per cent less radiation than conventional methods. With CEREC, we make ceramic crowns there in two to three hours. Separate pages describe how the laser is used in the clinic and professional teeth cleaning with ultrasound and AirFlow.
When the trip to the clinic is manageable
Our wheelchair-accessible clinic in Küsnacht-Goldbach is by the station. It is also accessible with a rollator, and parking is available. For the route, see directions and parking on Goldbacherstrasse.
Getting to the clinic with support
Often, a companion is enough. If you do not drive, a taxi or transport service can help. Some people receive supplementary benefits (Ergänzungsleistungen), a top-up to Swiss old-age (AHV) or disability (IV) pensions. For them, transport to the nearest place of treatment may be reimbursed.

Home visits in the municipality of Küsnacht
For a dentist home visit in Küsnacht, contact us directly. We will tell you on the phone whether your address is in the area we cover.
If you live outside the area
If your address is outside the area, we will say so plainly on the phone. A clinic appointment is then still an option, with a companion or transport service.
Dentist visits in care homes
When the dentist comes to a care home or nursing home, residents stay in familiar surroundings.
Working with the head of nursing and Spitex
A visit to a care home goes well when the head of nursing helps plan it. They know what time of day a resident is awake and calm. For people living at home, Spitex often plays this role.
When the care team should ask for a visit
A problem in the mouth often shows first at mealtimes or in behaviour. People with dementia often show pain only this way. Read more about dental care for care home residents with dementia. Look out for these signs:
- eating less or refusing food
- chewing on one side only
- a loose or rubbing denture
- noticeable bad breath
- restlessness when chewing

What a dentist home visit costs
We do not list fixed prices for home visits here. Costs depend on what is examined and treated.
How Swiss dental fees are calculated
We bill transparently under the Dentotar tariff, with our tax point value (Taxpunktwert) of CHF 1.13, and give you open advice on costs. Each service in the tariff has a number of tax points (Taxpunkte). Multiplied by the tax point value, these give the amount in francs. When you make your request, we will tell you whether there is an extra charge for travel.
Health insurance and supplementary benefits
In Switzerland, dental treatment is generally not covered by compulsory basic health insurance (Grundversicherung). Exceptions exist only for certain serious illnesses. The complete list is in the Health Care Benefits Ordinance (Krankenpflege-Leistungsverordnung, KLV). People who receive supplementary benefits with their AHV or IV pension can have dental costs reimbursed by their canton. The canton decides which costs qualify.
